Doordarshan and All India Radio have lined up special programmes to commemorate Farooque Shaikh’s 66th birth anniversary coming up on Tuesday, March 25.
DD’s national channel will telecast ‘Chashme Buddoor’ at 3.00pm on Sunday, March 23. Last week on March 9, DD Urdu had aired this comedy on its Sunday slot at 2.00pm and 10.00pm.
AIR’s Vividh Bharati plans to prepare a special “half an hour show at least” on the day of the anniversary, says the channel’s Mumbai head Rupali Kulkarni. Most likely this will be the ‘Aaj Ke Fankaar’ show at 9.30am with a repeat broadcast at 9.30pm. Songs picturised on the artiste are usually interspersed with interview recordings.
This will be the first time friends and fans will have to settle for tributes rather than personal greetings for Shaikh Sahab. The actor-philanthropist passed away on December 28 during a new year vacation in Dubai.
Incidentally, one of his last films ‘Youngistaan’ is scheduled to release three days after his birth anniversary. The team led by Vashu Bhagnani is preparing a publicity drive around that time, although the paid promo of the film that is on air does not feature Shaikh.
