Nitish betrayed Bihar, we will challenge governor’s decision in Supreme Court: Lalu

NEW DELHI: RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Thursday said he will appeal in the Supreme Court against Bihar governor Keshari Nath Tripathi’s decision to invite JD(U) president Nitish Kumar to form the government with support from the BJP.

Lalu argued that since RJD was the single largest party in Bihar, it should have been invited to form the government.

“We’re considering to appeal in Supreme court against governor’s decision. We are taking legal advice and will move court after that,” Lalu told mediapersons at a hastily convened press conference after Nitish Kumar took oath as chief minister.

The RJD supremo launched a scathing attack on Nitish for his “betrayal”+ and called him an “opportunist” for joining the BJP camp to retain power in the state.

Referring to the Assembly election results in 2015, when the grand alliance comprising JD(U), RJD and the Congress had received a massive mandate to soundly defeat the BJP government in the state, Lalu said Nitish had been made the chief minister only at his say-so.
“After creating a false image of being corruption-free, Nitish touted himself as candidate for Prime Minister. If I so desired, I wouldn’t even have made him the chief minister, his party only had 71 MLAs,”

He alleged that there was a conspiracy between the BJP and the JD(U)to sideline the RJD and that it had been in the works for quite some time.

“On many occasions, Nitish met PM Modi, had lunch. The timing of whatever happened was already fixed. Nitish Kumar joined hands with BJP to ensure raids by CBI, ED on RJD leaders and to malign them,” Lalu said.

The former Bihar chief minister further said there was anger in the hearts of the people at Nitish’s decision to side with the BJP, as they saw it as colluding with communal forces.
“Today, be it village or town, people are angry. Nitish Kumar is a huge opportunist. The mandate was against the BJP, to throw out Modi-Shah out of Bihar (after the assembly election). Now, he has betrayed the people of Bihar and India,” Lalu said.
Earlier today, Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the chief minister of Bihar for the sixth time+ , a day after he resigned, dumped coalition partner Lalu Prasad’s RJD and joined hands with the opposition BJP to reclaim his post.

Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi has asked Nitish to prove majority on the floor of the House+ on July 28

Nitish had quit as chief minister on Wednesday after a fall out with alliance partner RJD over corruption charges against Lalu Yadav and some of his family members, including son Tejashwi, who was the deputy CM in the previous dispensation.
