But the outcome landed both of them on a hospital bed. In the name of weight loss we follow whatever diet comes our way without questioning the limitations, impact and effect of the diet on your body in the long run. Same goes with all – fruit diet, it seems promising enough to help you in your fight for weight loss, but what are the negative effects of all – fruit diet on your body? Nutritionist with BCube Advanced Sports Nutrition, Priya Kathpal explains how, who and why you should follow an all – fruit diet.
We begin with how the fruit diet is beneficial for you. Priya says the fruit diet is, “Low on calories, packed with fiber and loads of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Cleansing the body is one of the major advantages.”
But why is bad for you? “No proteins and dietary fat at all, both of them are essential for healthy body; it is imbalanced in terms of human body requirements. Fruit diets are known to be deficient in vitamin D, calcium, iron, zinc and most B vitamins especially vitamin B12,” explains Priya. So if you plan to follow the diet everyday you should not be surprised if you feel weak, tired and under the weather.
It would make sense not to follow the fruit diet everyday, even though you may lose the weight. Priya tells you if you should follow the diet and the duration of the fruit diet, “As this kind of diet is almost nil or extremely low on most of the important nutrients one should not be following this very often. Once in 15 days to get the detoxification and cleansing benefits should be good considering you don’t have any underlying medical problems.”
Fruit diet is not for everyone – if your job involves you running about, maybe you should avoid it. If you have other health problems avoid following the fruit diet. If you are not involved in any strenuous activities you can do the fruit diet, but as a way to detox your system. Fruit diet has its limitations and it should be followed with caution.
