Mumbai Indians pacer Zaheer Khan has been ruled out for the rest of the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League due to a shoulder injury, team captain Rohit Sharma confirmed at the toss ahead of MI’s game against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Zaheer picked up the injury while bowling against MI’s five-wicket win against Kings XI Punjab on Saturday. He could only bowl 3.3 overs, conceding 28 runs without any success. As a result of Zaheer’s injury, Delhi left-arm medium Pawan Suyal came into Rohit’s team as a replacement for the game against RCB.
Zaheer’s injury has raised questions whether he would be able to regain his fitness ahead of India’s tour of England where MS Dhoni’s men are scheduled to play five Tests, with the first game starting on July 9 at Trent Bridge.
The 35-year-old Zaheer, who took five wickets for MI in six matches, has been plagued by injuries and poor form in the last couple of years or so. He made a comeback to the Indian Test team late last year after a gap of 13 months and did fairly well against South Africa and New Zealand, taking 16 wickets in four Tests.
